Maternal Mental Health Services

Maternal Mental Health is a term that refers to the mental health of a mother during conception, pregnancy, and the first year postpartum. While most people only are familiar with the term, Postpartum Depression, there is actually a range of maternal mental health issues that can occur during a woman’s motherhood journey. Like the aptly named title of maternal mental health expert Karen Kleiman’s book, This Isn’t What I Expected, many mothers are caught off guard by the unexpected issues that arise during the early stages of being a mom. In fact, as many as 1 in 5 women experience mental health challenges when having a baby.

You don’t have to suffer in silence

Here’s the thing. . . you don’t have to do this alone. Even those of us that have amazing friends and Facebook mommy groups to validate us, supportive partners, or lots of nearby family support can still suffer from maternal mental health problems. Investing in the support of a trained maternal mental health professional can be a total game-changer.

At Mindful Soul Center for Wellbeing, we provide assessment and treatment of the full range of maternal mental health issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Adoption

  • Anxiety Around Feeding Your Baby

  • Boundary & Communication Issues with Others

  • Couples Counseling for Expectant & New Parents

Support During Your Children’s Early Years

From midnight feedings to toddler temper tantrums, motherhood in the early years can be filled with snuggles, boo-boos, mealtime messes, and more. As babyhood moves to toddlerhood, you may start to experience feelings of anxiety about parenting, shifts in relationships with your partner or spouse, stress over your changing body, and a sense of loss for the woman you were before the mother you have become. The growing pains of motherhood are common but at times can feel overwhelming and cause increased feelings of anxiety or depression, isolation, and even anger and frustration.
